The basic economy of San Luis is composed of agriculture, retail trade, government offices and construction. Due to the seasonal nature of the agricultural sector, this portion of the labor force is only employed for five (5) to six (6) months per year. Many of these seasonal workers will move to the next community, following the next maturing crop, those who do not, make up a large portion of the unemployment figures shown below. The unemployment rate of 34.50/0 indicated in the chart below for the year 2005 will be reduced significantly with the opening on the second part of 20070f several business such us: Wal-Mart and stores around, a Call Center as well as a Detention Center that will generate over 1,0000 new jobs bringing the unemployment rate down to about 17%•
